AROUND THE WORLD CALENDAR
Activity is for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders
Students will research on the country of their choice and find a landmark (natural or manmade). Students will design one slide and put the information about the landmark. Afterwards students will combine other students' slides to complete their calendar.
Making the Calendar
- Right click on the Calendar link and choose Save Target As. Save it as Your Name and Calendar.
- Each student or group must choose a month from the calendar. No duplication.
- After choosing the month, delete all other slides from the PowerPoint.
- Make necessary changes on your calendar such as the days, color.
- Mark important days in your month such as Church Feastdays and any interesting dates that you want to include in your calendar. (Do the Researching the Landmark portion first.)
- Insert the slide for your landmark to the Calendar Powerpoint.
- Insert the slides from your classmates to create your Calendar.
- Save your work.
- Enjoy your calendar.
Researching the Landmark
- Open Microsoft Word. Copy and paste items on Number 2.
- Research the following information:
- Name of the country
- Name of the landmark
- Physical dimensions of the landmark
- Whether it is natural or was made by people
- If chosen landmark was made by people, research when it was made, how long it took to build it and who made it.
- Number of visitors annually
- Little-known or interesting fact about the landmark
- Save the file as Your Name and the country you chose.
- Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Design one slide that includes the information about the landmark.
- Save the PowerPoint as Your name and the landmark.
